Of all the carnivivores, those that have reached the greatest perfection as predators are undoubtedly the Felidae, the cats, found in Europe, Asia, Africa, and America. Their appearance shows certain general characteristics: a muscular and flexible body, a massive head, with short muzzle, well developed long legs, feet with retractable claws, walking in the digitigrade fashion. They are usually excellent climbers and runners, and most are able swimmers. The leopard weighing up to 70 kg (150 lbs), and is an agile climber. The distribution stretches from the whole of Africa to southern Asia, and for this reason there exist several subspecies.
